Meet Amy Basham
I never expected helping therapists build private practices would become one of the most meaningful parts of my career.
For over 10 years, my passion has been helping people heal.
Being a therapist is one of the greatest privileges of my life. I have had the opportunity to sit with people during some of their hardest moments, walk alongside them through change, and witness the incredible strength people have within them.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something unexpected:
I became just as passionate about helping therapists build fulfilling careers and private practices as I was about helping my clients heal.
And that realization changed the direction of my work.

My journey into private practice
When I started my own private practice, I quickly realized something many therapists experience:
The clinical work felt familiar.
The business side did not.
Like so many therapists, I had spent years learning how to be a great clinician.
But I had never been taught how to market a business, set fees, understand finances, create systems, or make the countless decisions required to build a sustainable practice.
I found myself learning through trial and error, searching for answers, and figuring things out along the way.
And eventually, I realized I wasn’t the only one.
I started hearing the same questions from other therapists:
“Where do I even start?”
“Am I charging the right fee?”
“How do I get clients?”
“How do I know if I’m making the right business decisions?”
These therapists were incredibly skilled at helping others.
They simply had never been taught the business skills needed to build a practice.
And that doesn’t mean they weren’t capable.
It meant they needed support.
Why I started Amy Basham Coaching
When I created my private practice, I wasn’t just looking for another job.
I was building a life.
I wanted the flexibility to be present for my family, spend more time with my daughter, and create a career that supported the kind of life I wanted to live.
I wanted to do meaningful work while also having the freedom and financial stability to care for the people I love.
And I believe other therapists deserve that opportunity too.
You should not have to choose between serving people well and creating a business that supports your life.
A private practice can be both.
It can be a place where you help others, use your gifts, and create the flexibility and stability you need.
What I believe
I believe therapists are capable of building successful private practices.
They are not missing something essential.
They were simply never taught the skills.
I believe business skills are learnable.
Marketing does not have to feel salesy.
Charging sustainable fees does not make you less compassionate.
Making money does not mean you care less about helping people.
You do not have to become a different person to build a private practice.
You need support learning the skills, trusting yourself, and giving yourself permission to grow.

Coaching therapists is the unexpected next chapter of my work.
Amy Basham Coaching was created because I wanted to provide the support I wish had existed when I was building my own practice.
A roadmap.
A place to ask questions.
Someone to help make sense of the business decisions that can feel overwhelming.
But more than that, I wanted therapists to have someone remind them:
You are capable.
You are allowed to build a business that supports you.
And you do not have to figure this out alone.
A little more about me

Outside of my work as a therapist and coach, I’m a wife and mom who understands the challenge of balancing meaningful work with a full life.
Becoming a mother deepened my desire to create a career that allowed me to be present for the people who matter most.
It also shaped the way I view private practice.
I don’t believe success is about building the biggest business possible.
I believe success is creating a practice that aligns with your values and supports the life you want to live.
My faith is also an important part of who I am and influences the way I approach my work—with compassion, purpose, integrity, and a desire to serve others well.
My experience
I bring over 10 years of experience as a therapist, along with experience in community mental health, addiction treatment, clinical leadership, and private practice.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor designation (LPCC-S), Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), and Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C).
My goal is not to tell you there is one right way to build a private practice.
My goal is to help you understand your options, make thoughtful decisions, and build a practice that feels aligned with who you are.
Because private practice is not just about building a business.
It is about building a life.
